Beaches in Lerici and San Terenzo: a guide

The closest beach to Il Capolavoro is San Terenzo: fine sand, shallow water, 250 metres from the door, about four minutes on foot. Beyond it, the Lerici coastline has plenty more — Venere Azzurra and the coves of Lerici within walking distance, Fiascherino, Tellaro and Baia Blu by car. Here is what each one is like and how to get there.

San Terenzo beach

This is the beach on your doorstep: 250 metres from Il Capolavoro, a few minutes' walk downhill. It runs the length of the village for about two hundred metres, with fine, pale sand and water that stays shallow a long way out. Part of it is free; part is a free beach with sunbeds, umbrellas, pedal boats and canoes for hire.

Behind San Terenzo castle is Marinella, a cove of fine sand about seventy metres long, framed by Mediterranean scrub. You can walk there too.

On foot, along the sea

Towards Lerici: Venere Azzurra, the Lido, San Giorgio

Between San Terenzo and Lerici the coast is one long seafront promenade, about twenty minutes' walk from the house. On the way is Venere Azzurra, the hub of Lerici's summer life; at the far end, past Lerici harbour, are the coves of San Giorgio.

Venere Azzurra. A sandy beach in the middle of the bay between Lerici and San Terenzo. It has a free stretch, free stretches with rentals (Aloha Beach, Marigola Beach, Venere 1), and you can hire umbrellas, sunbeds and pedal boats.

Lerici. Along the seafront are the beach clubs — the Lido, whose beach slopes gently into shallow water for a long stretch, and Colombo — and, on the rocks below the castle, Ciccillo a Mare.

San Giorgio. Three small sandy inlets beyond Lerici castle, reached through a pedestrian tunnel from the harbour. The town notes that access is partly closed for safety reasons: only the first beach can be used, from June to September.

By car

Towards Tellaro: Fiascherino, Eco del Mare, the rocks

After Lerici the coast turns steep and the beaches become coves below the road: you drive there and walk down. The water is very clear, and the rocks are popular with snorkellers.

Fiascherino: two short beaches of coarse sand, split by a small headland and reached by two flights of steps. Partly free, partly equipped, with a lifeguard. D. H. Lawrence lived here in 1913–14.
Eco del Mare: a paying beach club in a cove sixty metres below the road, between Lerici and Fiascherino, reached by lift or steps. Prices and bookings on its own website.
La Caletta: a small bay you reach from the sea or down a footpath. On the seabed lie the remains of a 1st-century AD Roman ship.
Trigliano rocks, in Tellaro: a rocky shelf in front of the village harbour, reached by swimming or along small lanes, for jumping in from different heights.

On the other side

Baia Blu

Baia Blu is the sandy inlet between Punta Santa Teresa and Punta Galera, on the side of San Terenzo that faces La Spezia. You can't reach it along the coast: you drive through Pozzuolo. There's a free stretch, with sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, and a beach club with pools.

Before you go

Free beach, rentals or beach club

Lerici's beaches work in three ways. A spiaggia libera is free. A spiaggia libera attrezzata is also free, but you can hire sunbeds and umbrellas. A stabilimento, or beach club, is paid, with your own spot and facilities.

Beach clubs are worth booking, especially in August. For the free beaches, the town has used booking systems and resident quotas in past seasons; the rules can change from year to year, so check the town's official tourism site, lericicoast.it, before you go.

Lerici is one of the Ligurian towns with a 2026 Blue Flag, the FEE award for water quality and services.

A house four minutes from the beach

All three houses at Il Capolavoro are 250 metres from San Terenzo beach, each with its own entrance and free parking on the property: the car stays there for the beaches towards Tellaro, and you won't need it for San Terenzo.

How far is the beach from Il Capolavoro?

Are there free beaches in Lerici and San Terenzo?

Yes. In San Terenzo part of the beach is free and part is a free beach with sunbeds and umbrellas for hire. Venere Azzurra, Marinella, Baia Blu and the first cove of San Giorgio, below Lerici castle, are free too. Fiascherino has both free and equipped stretches.

Which beach is best for children?

San Terenzo, for two reasons: it's sandy and stays shallow for tens of metres, and it's a walk from Il Capolavoro. In Lerici, the Lido has shallow water for a long stretch.
