Lerici Parking: Where to Park and the ZTL

In summer, finding somewhere to leave the car is the hardest part of a day in Lerici or San Terenzo: the public car parks charge and fill up, and from 15 June to 31 August both village centres are a limited traffic zone, or ZTL. Below: where to park, when the ZTL applies, the free shuttles — and how to reach Il Capolavoro, where every house has its own parking space.

At Il Capolavoro, the car stays put

Each of the three houses has its own free, reserved parking space inside the property. No hunting for a spot, no parking permit to buy: you arrive, leave the car, and walk everywhere for the rest of your stay.

San Terenzo beach is 250 metres away, about four minutes on foot, and so is Marigola Golf. The village centre is eight minutes' walk, Lerici twenty. The car comes in handy for day trips: La Spezia is twenty minutes' drive, Portovenere forty.

Public car parks

Where to park in Lerici and San Terenzo

Lerici's public car parks are open-air and pay-and-display, run by Sviluppo Turistico Lerici for the town. The largest is La Vallata, just behind the seafront between San Terenzo and Lerici; in San Terenzo there is Park San Terenzo, on Via Milano. In summer you pay every day.

For the operator, summer runs from 15 April to 30 September and winter from 1 October to 14 April. Rates change from year to year, so we don't list them here: the current ones, with the hours of each car park, are on the Sviluppo Turistico Lerici parking page (in Italian).

You pay at the meters, which take coins and cards but give no change and don't accept notes, or with the EasyPark, Telepass Pay X and MooneyGO apps. White and blue bays are paid parking for everyone; yellow bays are reserved for local permit holders.

Limited traffic zone

The Lerici and San Terenzo ZTL

From 15 June to 31 August the centre of Lerici, the centre of San Terenzo and the seafront between them are a ZTL every day, from 10:00 to 18:30 and at night from 01:00 to 05:00. While it is active you can only drive in with a town permit; the gates have cameras.

Each gate has an illuminated sign: «varco attivo» means the zone is in force and you can't enter without a permit; «varco non attivo» means you can drive through freely. Permits go to residents, owners of second homes or garages, businesses and workers. Visitors leave the car in one of the car parks above.

Some streets are a ZTL all year, 24 hours a day: in San Terenzo the first side street off Via Gozzano, in Lerici Via General Ferrari and Salita Canata, then Via Casini in Pugliola and the stretch of Via Fiascherino in Tellaro. On Via Milano in San Terenzo, beyond the «campetto» car park, the ZTL applies day and night in summer, and the rest of the year from 13:00 on Saturday through Sunday and on public holidays.

One of them matters if you're coming to us: in Solaro, the road from Piazza Vassale down to the edge of Bagnola is a ZTL all year round, while Bagnola itself is outside it. One more reason not to trust the sat nav blindly — more on that below.

The free shuttle buses

Two free ATC Esercizio shuttles run between the car parks and the villages. The Blue Line starts in San Terenzo and links the coast with the main car parks as far as Lerici; the Green Line links Pugliola and Pozzuolo with Lerici.

Frequencies change with the season and the service is revised more than once a year, so check the times before you set out: current maps and timetables are on the ATC Esercizio shuttle page. In Lerici there is also a lift from the Calata Mazzini tunnel up to San Giorgio castle.

Getting to the house

Sat navs often suggest the wrong road for Bagnola. The right route goes up from the San Terenzo seafront: take Via XX Settembre for about 200 metres, pass the cemetery, carry on for another 50 and turn right before the bridge.

The last stretch is narrow and uphill. A guest from California described it as a tight drive and a steep hill — intimidating the first time, then part of feeling at home. Once you're here, the car goes in its space and stays there.

If you're arriving between 15 June and 31 August, bear in mind that the San Terenzo seafront is inside the summer ZTL: when you let us know your arrival time, as we ask for check-in, ask us how best to handle it.

The beaches of San Terenzo are a walk away, and the Cinque Terre are about an hour by train: two outings where the car can stay where it is.

Where can I park in Lerici?

In the public pay-and-display car parks run by Sviluppo Turistico Lerici. The largest is La Vallata, with 359 spaces, just behind the seafront between San Terenzo and Lerici; the others are Venere Azzurra, Falconara, Baia Blu and Erbetta. When is the Lerici ZTL active?

From 15 June to 31 August, every day from 10:00 to 18:30 and at night from 01:00 to 05:00. It covers the centre of Lerici, the centre of San Terenzo and the seafront between them. While it is active you can only drive in with a permit issued by the town, and the gates are watched by cameras.
